Stephen M. Perry, Printmaker

Backroads Press

Printmaker, writer and retired landscape architect, Stephen Perry has spent his life in appreciation of the natural landscape and has continually worked to interpret that appreciation to others.

Steve has always had his hands in image making. Early in his career it was pen and ink illustration and architectural rendering to communicate his design ideas. His interest in printmaking began through appreciation of his Grandfather’s Prairie Printmakers’ print collection, which is now his own. Upon retirement, Steve set up his printmaking studio and to date has produced over 75 editions of original prints in several different mediums.

In his home studio, Steve is creating limited-edition, mixed-media prints that depict the rural and natural landscape.  He has worked with traditional copper plate etching, but in an effort to become more environmentally green, he switched to non-toxic photo-polymer plates used in varying techniques.  Currently, he is creating mixed-media prints from hand-drawn original art which is used to prepare the printing plate.  Steve hand inks and pulls an edition of black and white prints from that plate and then paints each print individually with watercolor.  The resulting original prints are uniquely his own interpretation of the rural American landscape.
