Where Culinary Arts and Care Unite
A commercial kitchen in an art gallery may seem unusual, but for the artists and facilitators at The Clayworks in Hutchinson, it’s a natural fit. After all, working with clay and cuisine are each deeply human activities–some of the first clay vessels were used to store grains and aid in food preservation. At the Culinary Arts Kitchen in The Clayworks, we’re not going back in time quite that far, but we are thinking about all the ways cooking brings us together and creates a special connection between people, families, and communities every day, all across the world.
Surrounded by fresh herbs and an inspiring library of cookbooks from around the world, participants share the joy of cooking and the tradition of breaking bread with their community.
Where Culinary Arts and Care Unite
During a typical day, we might find a cooking demonstration facilitated by a community member or led by a Disability Supports client. As a meal comes together, participants learn about cooking techniques, local history, and each other. It’s a simple, yet powerfully effective way to support our clients, and follows our Gentle Teaching Model of care by building authentic connections between caregivers and clients.
